Biography
Denise Cruickshank is a Dublin based artist. She graduated from NCAD in 2022 with a BA honours degree in Fine Art. Her graduation sculpture was selected by the Sculpture in Context committee in 2022 and her Poem “In Stitches” also from her graduation note book, was selected by the Belonging Project, UCD.
In 2023 Cruickshank joined a new group “Creative Collective” comprised of 7 artists. Their inaugural exhibition was in 2023. They have exhibited together in several exhibitions since. She curates and invigilates the work.
Cruickshank’s practice examines family and heritage, origins and destination, instigation and outcome. Through compositions and artefacts she explores the influences of surroundings past and present for each exhibition. Most of her work is site-specific and ranges from textile and ceramic sculpture, to abstracted and figurative painting/drawing. It responds to displacement and environmental damage due to domestic and international crises.
All of Cruickshank’s work is delivered and installed within budget and on time. Her most recent exhibition is “Ephemeral” at Hunting Brook Gardens in Blessington, Dublin, in collaboration with horticultural expert Jimi Blake. The artworks are made site-specific.
